We write this today with much sadness and regret, but also with the confidence that we have made the proper decision in regards to the safety of our 240 registered football players and families. In light of the TCYFL decision to suspend operations for the 2020 season we have decided to follow suit at this time. As a Board we discussed many possibly alternatives and options, but in the end every discussion came back to safety and our responsibility to keep the players, our Coaches, our Volunteers and their families safe. Our partnership with TCYFL over the years has always been one of trust and mutual respect, and we continue that trust in the TCYFL leadership and support their decision on this season. The decision does not come lightly, or without hours of research and information gathering by both TCYFL and the Mustangs organization.
There were also many logistical and financial issues to consider. Where would we practice and play if District 158 is unable to allow us access to their fields? How do we manage quarantine and activity if one of our Players or Coaches were to be diagnosed with a positive test, or if an opponent were found to have tested positive after we played them? We cannot be responsible for potentially spreading the virus faster in schools because of our unending desire to play football this fall. We also owe it to our members to make a responsible fiscal decision. If we were to begin a season and get shut down a week or several weeks in to play, it would come at considerable cost to our families in that we would not be able to refund any registration fees at that point due to expenses. By doing this now we will be able to provide everyone a full refund of their registration fees. We have not completed the Uniform order, and our Equipment is still safely wrapped in plastic after reconditioning this winter so we have not incurred any major costs to this point of the year.
We want to take a moment to thank all of our Volunteers - the Board of Directors, the Coaches, the Team Mom's & Dad's, and especially our Players and Families. Your unwavering support and loyalty has made this program what it is today. Mustang Nation is much bigger and better than any virus, and we will return either this Spring or next Fall bigger, better and stronger than ever before.
To our Players, and especially our outgoing 8th graders - we are sorry. We know how much you love this game and would do anything to play it, and we share that passion and desire. However, as Adults and representatives of all of you we must use logic and reasoning as we proceed and your well being is always the most important thing to us as an organization. We hate that this season, and so many other things, have been taken away from you at no fault of your own. Thank you to the 8th graders for all your years on the field with the Mustangs - you are a special group of young men and are going to do GREAT things in High School and in your futures. We will have a special gift for the 8th grade players coming in the next few months, and we will be in touch with those families on an event to present that gift to all the boys at once if possible, so please stay tuned for that.
We will begin processing all full refunds in the next few weeks, but we ask for your patience and understanding please. The logistics of refunding the money will be cumbersome, and even involves basic items like ordering enough checks to send refunds to all 240 families. We will mail that refund to your address on record from registration, and once those have all been mailed we will update you all so you can watch your mailbox for that.
As a Board of Directors we are committed to stay in touch with you all this fall and winter with any updates or developments about a possible Spring Season, or the progress towards next season. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to any of us.
Thank you ALL for everything, please be safe, and stay happy and healthy. Go Mustangs! 3 -2 -1 BOOM!
